Brothers, Sisters, and Kin,
As your Vice President, I want to take a moment to speak directly to each of you about something that is vital to the health, strength, and future of Local 63:
Your presence at our meetings.
Meetings are not just dates on a calendar they are the beating heart of our union. When we come together, we conduct our business with efficiency, make the decisions that shape our Local, and build the solidarity that keeps us strong. Without participation, that process slows, morale dips, and our ability to represent ourselves as a united force in Winnipeg’s theatre community is weakened.
Why It Matters That You Show Up
Business gets done. Without quorum, we can’t move forward on motions, decisions, or important union business. Your seat in the room directly impacts how effectively we operate.
Morale is lifted. A hall filled with members reminds us all that we’re part of something bigger a family of technicians, craftspeople, and artists who stand shoulder to shoulder.
Your voice is heard. When you attend, you shape the direction of the Local. If you’re absent, others decide for you.
We show our strength. Employers and the community take note when a union is engaged, informed, and united.
The Risks of Not Attending
When we don’t show up, the message is loud and clear and not in our favor. Progress stalls, decisions are delayed, and our unity looks weaker than it is. That’s when morale suffers, and our bargaining power at the negotiating table is put at risk.
Our Bond: Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Kinship
We are more than a list of names on a roster. We are Local 63 a family with decades of history in this city’s cultural life. Each meeting is an opportunity to strengthen that bond, to honor the brotherhood, sisterhood, and kinship that define who we are. When you walk into a meeting, you’re not just attending you’re standing beside your fellow members in solidarity.
Our Place in Winnipeg’s Theatre Community
Our reputation matters. The stronger and more organized we are, the greater our impact within Winnipeg’s arts and entertainment world. When we fill our meeting hall, we not only keep our Local fluent in business we also show this community that IATSE stands tall, united, and committed to excellence.
Brothers, Sisters, Kin I cannot stress this enough: your attendance matters. It strengthens our Local, keeps our business running smoothly, and builds the solidarity that makes us who we are.
Let’s keep OUR Local 63 strong, respected, and united. I look forward to seeing every one of you at our next meeting.
In solidarity,
Brian Mann
Vice President
